Police Fire brigade has mounted a search for the body of a drunken man who drowned in River Okole in Kole district on Tuesday evening.

The search entered a second day this morning.

Reports indicate that the police fire brigade throughout Tuesday evening in Kole district struggled in vain to recover the body.

The victim suspected to be drunk drowned in River Okole along the Lira -Kamdini Highway last evening.

The Kole District Police Commander Ahmed Musakana, told us that the victim was riding when he fell off his bicycle into the fast flowing river.

He said eye witnesses told police they tried to rescue the man whose identity is not yet known in vain. The incident occurred at about 4:30pm.

Police was immediately notified and a team of the fire brigade personnel from Kole Central Police Station rushed to the scene.

Musakana said they recovered the bicycle some metres away from the scene. He said the search efforts are being frustrated by the fast-flowing water which cannot allow them to comb certain areas of the river.

This is as a result of the heavy rains that lasted from Monday midnight up to 9 am on Tuesday in most parts of northern Uganda.
