At least 14 people have been confirmed dead after a taxi they were travelling in was involved in an accident at a place called Sagazi in Lugazi Municipality.
A taxi registration number UAZ 350U travelling from the eastern part of the country collided with a trailer whose tractor is Reg.No. UAU 650S and trailer Reg.No. UAY894G.
Speaking exclusively to this website, Lameck Kigozi the Ssezibwa regional police spokesperson said all the 14 people in the taxi died and their bodies have been taken to Kawolo hospital mortuary.
According to Kigozi, they are yet to know the town from which the taxi came, but it was heading to Kampala.
“Efforts by our fire and rescue operatives are ongoing, they are still cutting the wreckage of the taxi to find any survivor but chances are very slim that anybody in the taxi could have survived. So far all bodies removed have been taken to kawolo hospital mortuary” Lameck said.
He added; “The presumed cause of this accident at the moment, we are looking at bad weather because it was raining heavily, coupled with bad driving practices. Never the less, we are still investigating, we are yet to get the driver of the trailer whom we believe is still on the run, but everything possible is being done to ensure that man is apprehended to give us a narration of his side of the story.”
