Residents of Bisina parish in Palam Sub County in Katakwi district were on Monday left in shock after a man identified as Charles Oberu committed suicide when his in-laws rejected him.

According to witnesses, Oberu was rejected on grounds of his violent behavior that had earlier driven his wife back to her parents.

Oberu is believed to have drunk poison after being turned away by his wife's family when he went to pick her up from their home last night.

Oberu was married to Immaculate Imalingat, the daughter of Robert Imalingat with whom he alleged that he developed a quarrel with his wife, on June 14th prompting her to run to her parent's home.

Oberu like any other man decided to go and fetch his sweet wife only to be blocked by her parents, citing his violent behavior.

According to John Francis Otude, the Palam sub county LC III chairperson, Oberu had earlier on vowed to end his life should the parents of his wife block him from accessing her.

URN reports that after being blocked Oberu moved about 30 meters away and took poison to end his life. He returned to his in-laws home and sat down for about 30 minutes before he died.

A team from Palam police post rushed to the scene and discovered that Oberu had taken poison. His body was taken to Katakwi health center IV for postmortem.
