Five people were on Monday nominated to contest in the local government residual and by-elections in Rakai District.

The by-election is meant to fill the Kifamba Male Youth Councilor position which fell vacant following the death of Augustine Jaggwe of National Unity Platform-NUP who died in a car accident. 

They will also fill the position for the Female Elderly Representative for Lwentulege Town council, PWD which is vacant following the death of Regina Nambooze.

Resisual elections will also be held for the PWD Female Councilor for Lwamaggwa Town council, and Female Elderly Representative for Mweruka Town council, which were not contested for in the general elections due to a lack of candidates.

Day one of the nomination exercise on Monday was marred by delays due to the absence of the Chief Magistrate who was supposed to stamp the nomination papers of the aspirants.  
Chief Magistrate Patrick Kityo arrived at 4:40 pm, and that is when the exercise started.

Alex Kiweewa of the NRM party, Sharif Ssaku (NUP), and Yosam Ssuuna an independent candidate were nominated for the Kifamba Male Youth Councilor.

Jawuria Nakuya (NRM) was nominated for the Female Elderly Representative for Lwentulege Town council, while Nowelina Namugga (NRM) was nominated for the Female Elderly Representative Mweruka Town council.

Sylvia Kyohairwe Tegyeza, the Rakai District Returning Officer says they are expecting more candidates today Tuesday, which is the last day of the nomination.  
The Electoral Commission set December 16th as the date for holding all the residual and by-elections will be held.
