At least 86 people were last night arrested from the Garage Bar located in Ntinda Kigowa and Levels Lounge Kamwokya after a tipoff.
50 people were arrested in Kigoowa and are currently detained at different police stations in the division and will also be arraigned in court today for fines.
Meanwhile, 36 others were arrested by the territorial Police at Kampala Metropolitan during an operation at Levels Lounge Located in Kamwokya. The suspects include 14 women and 22 men.
Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson says the suspects were immediately taken to Kiira Road Police station on allegations of doing a negligent act likely to spread an infection of disease. They will be arraigned in court for penalties, as police await the fine structure from the Ministry of Finance.
While addressing the country on Sunday evening, President Museveni directed the Secretary to Treasury, to come up with a fine structure, for errant people who refuse to follow his guidelines on COVID-19.
The President announced that bars should remain closed and that whoever wants to drink, should buy alcohol and do the drinking in their homes. He also ordered that while lodges and restaurants would remain open, their bar sections should be closed.
