Drama ensued down town Kampala when ASP David Nahamya the new Kampala Central Police Station-CPS operations commander launched an operation to hunt for suspected street muggers.

The operation which started at 1pm left 35 men in police custody. These were arrested from Arua Park, Wilson Street and corridors of intertwined buildings.

According to Nahamya, the operation follows a series of complaints from traders and members of the public whose property has been stolen on the streets of Kampala. These include; cases of street mugging, theft and pick-pocketing, theft of women's hand bags which have all been reported to CPS.

The police did today's work with the help of covert intelligence personnel who nabbed suspects that were taking refuge in building basements and corridors. Also, a group of youth who tried to mix with other people that were taking a rest at City Square, were also picked by police.

However, some suspects claim to have wrongfully arrested after being found in the wrong time at the wrong time.  

The suspects will be screen and those who are innocent shall be released unconditionally, while the rest will be arraigned before Courts of law.
