The Police in Rukiga have in custody five suspects for allegedly obstructing an electoral officer who was driving to deliver electoral items including biometric machines among others.

The Police in Rukiga have in custody five suspects for allegedly obstructing an electoral officer who was driving to deliver electoral items including biometric machines among others. 

Elly Maate identifies the suspects as Ivan Ngamushaba 32 yrs of Rwamucucu s/c, Mark Tushabe 25 yrs of same address, Derrick Muhereza 22 yrs of Kamwezi s/c, Jeremiah Nimusima 20 yrs of Muhanga town council and, Christopher Twine 29 yrs of Kashambya s/c all of Rukiga district.

It's alleged that today morning at around 05:30am at Kitanga along Kisizi road, while the driver of mv reg no UBE 817R one Birungi Dismus attached to the production office Rukiga was heading to Kashambya sub county dispatching electoral items, he was blocked by vehicle reg no UAL 335L Toyota ranger white in colour with six people on board.

According to Maate, the suspects allegedly grabbed the EC driver's car key and phone, went and searched the said vehicle for yet unknown reason before roughing him up. 
Police received the information, swung into action and managed to arrest five of the six suspects. 

The driver abandoned the vehicle and ran for his life. The vehicle was later driven to police and suspects were escorted too and charged accordingly as investigations continue.
