48 NUP Party Members Charged in Military Court

A total of 48 members of the National Unity Platform, NUP Party have been arraigned before the Military Court Martial in Makindye and charged with illegal possession of ammunition!

These are part of the over 90 party members that were arrested in Kalangala at least two weeks ago when Robert Kyagulanyi had gone to the area for campaigns.

According to the Charge Sheet, the group is charged under section 119 (h) (i) of the UPDF Act, 2005. The article relates to; “Every person found in unlawful possession of arms, ammunition or equipment ordinarily being the monopoly of the Defence Force; or other classified stores classified.”

The suspects include; Kyagulanyi’s music partner Buken Ali alias Nubian Li and his security guard Ssebufu Edward alias Eddie Mutwe. Others are; Rachael Tusiime, Nansove Saphinah, Ssemakula Hassan alias Abdu Soldier, Namboozo Shakirah Alias Shuki among others.

Kyagulanyi took to twitter earlier wondering why his people, were being charged before Court Martial, just a few days to the January 14th general election.

“Full circle! Five days to election, the dictatorship has arraigned 48 of my campaign team members, including  @NubianBukenAli before a military court and charged them with illegal possession of ammunition! Lawyers, family members denied access to the court. They've been remanded!” he said.

According to Court records, the suspects were found in unlawful possession of four (04) rounds of ammunition of AK47, the said ammunition being ordinarily a monopoly of the Defence Forces.
