Ssemujju Nganda breaks social distancing rules as thousands escort him to Wakiso District for nomination

Trouble is awaiting after thousands of people showed up this morning to escort the Kira municipality MP, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda for nomination.

On Wednesday, police warned that no aspirant would be allowed any processions as the nomination exercise for members of parliament kicks off today.

The chairman electoral commission also warned aspirants against turning up with processions filled with taxi drivers and boda boda riders. This is in line with the ministry of health guidelines on social distancing as a means of preventing the spread of Coronavirus.

The police traffic department is expected to assign each aspirant a route to use while going to the respective EC offices in their districts.

They promised not to allow any processions and warned politicians against provoking them, and using this to seek sympathy from voters.

However, Hon. Nganda already broke the rules, when a procession with more than 1000 people showed up at his home in Kirinnya Bukasa, to escort him to be nominated.
According to the timetable, Ssemujju is expected to be nominated at 11am this morning at Wakiso district.

His supporters closed off half of Kirinya road when they parked their cars on one part of it. Ssemujju had earlier promised to have a normal nomination procession as has been in the past, claiming the EC’s guidelines are just political.

During the weekly press conference at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Monday, the FDC Party Presidential flag bearer Patrick Oboi Amuriat urged all party candidates to be nominated on day one, which is today.
