Members of the National Unity Platform-NUP have been urged to pick applications and present themselves for vetting for the Lord Mayoral race after the Party’s favorite candidate Latif Ssebagala dropped out of the race in favor of his friend Erias Lukwago, the FDC Party flag bearer.

The Kawempe North MP Latif Sebaggala Ssengendo was given the party ticket against Joseph Mayanja who was dumped for being less popular and Catholic. However, Ssebagala pulled out of the race, just one day after he was endorsed by the party’s Elections Management Committee- EMC to be the party flag bearer.

Now, in a letter dated September 23, the NUP- EMC chairperson stays the party has agreed to receive interested individuals and take them through a vetting process to come up with another flag bearer.

According to Joel Ssennyonyi the National Unity Platform party spokesperson, the Elections Management Committee got guidance from the party legal team to decline the option of fronting any of the candidates who came second in Sebaggala's vetting process.

Arguing that the lawyers guided that the process be repeated, adding that the new process will go on from September 24 to September 25, 2020.

The youngest political party in the country denied allegations that Sebaggala’s decision to quit the Lord Mayoral race was a syndicate influenced by big wigs within the party.
