Police Arrests Man for Making Counterfeit Sanitizers

The police in Katwe have arrested a one Knight Stephen, a resident of Nsambya Central zone, Makindye Division Kampala who has been making counterfeit disinfectants and sanitizers.

The police in Katwe have arrested a one Knight Stephen, a resident of Nsambya Central zone, Makindye Division Kampala who has been making counterfeit disinfectants and sanitizers.

Patrick Onyango the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says they received information about the suspect and swooped in with detectives together with crime scene officers who conducted the search and found the materials.

“Several items were recovered including; bottles containing liquid with a sticker labelled life care diagnostics, an alcohol meter, and empty jerrycans, bottles, measuring cylinders, stickers, funnels, tubes and boxes” Onyango says.

The suspect was arrested and admits that he is not authorized to manufacture the said product. He is currently detained at Katwe police station on a charge of dealing in counterfeit products.

According to Onyango, the National Drug Authority and Uganda National Bureau of Standards have been brought on board as part of the team to investigate the matter. 

“We want to appeal to members of the public to be on the lookout for counterfeit sanitizers. We also appeal to the general public to inform police of any illegal activities in the area.
