Security organs in Lira are investigating a case of impersonation filed by a teacher in Otuke who claims that the Lira Resident District Commissioner, Milton Odongo with whom they share a name, is impersonating him using his academic documents.

The teacher, through his lawyers at Makmot and Company Advocates, claims that the RDC, who is also known as Okwany Aguto obtained his Primary seven and Uganda Certificate of Education-UCE certificates in 1988 and 1996 respectively.  This matter is currently recorded at Otuke District Magistrate’s Court as criminal case number 172 of 2019 under Private prosecution.

Odongo says that Okwany Aguto who is holding the office of the Resident District Commissioner of Lira is using his academic papers bearing the name Milton Odongo and is now threatening him with criminal prosecution as well as threatening the teacher’s life.

He now wants the RDC to answer for impersonation, theft, threatening violence and uttering false documents.

Benjamin Serwango the Otuke Chief Magistrate has summoned the RDC to appear before court on December 4th to respond to the charges.

One of Odongo’s lawyers, Moses Ouma, of Makmot and Company Advocates, says the decision to drag Okwany to court is aimed at securing justice for Milton Odongo, whose life in danger because of persistent threats. Without divulging details, Ouma says they have gathered all the required documents to implicate the RDC.
