One person suspected to be a notorious criminal in Abim district has been shot dead by the Uganda People's Defense Force, UPDF soldiers.
The suspect identified as Christopher Olweny was killed in Alerek Sub County on Thursday after he landed in an ambush at night with a stolen bicycle and hoes among other stolen items, according to Capt. Abert Arinaitwe, the UPDF 3rd Division Spokesman.
Capt. Arinaitwe revealed that Olweny has been on the list of the five most wanted criminals in Karamoja.
He is also suspected to be behind the shootings that left a pupil dead and three people injured last weekend in Abim.
According to Capt. Arinaitwe says Olweny and others have been involved in cattle thefts, killings and other criminal activities in Karamoja and other neighbouring districts.
Last month, soldiers recovered 18 rounds of ammunition from Olweny’s house.
