Transport in Mukono district has been paralyze after River Sezibwa burst due to heavy rains on Thursday.

Residents and traders crossing using the route from Kayanja Lugazi to Sseeta-Nazigo and those crossing from Kayanja to Mbalala Walusubi to connect to the Kampala-Jinja highway are finding difficulties to cross through the villages of Busiiba and Nawanjuki to their intended destinations.

According to Moses Musamba a boda-boda cyclist, the roads have always been in a poor state and always worsen during rainy season.

Ruth Namwooyo a resident says they have raised the concern to leaders, but nothing has been done, adding that she is worried that residents could be rendered homeless and school children trapped when the new school term resumes on Monday.

Flooding is also likely to increase as rain continues. Namwooyo says she fears crossing to her garden in Kayanja for farming.

Busiiba LCI Chairperson Paddy Ssengendo Kaweesa wants the district and central government to intervene and construct a bridge, arguing that the culverts cannot hold water from the river  because of the high pressure.

Andrew Ssenyonga the District Chairperson blamed flooding on the heavy rains and water from the nearby Ssezibwa falls.
