The Makerere Administrative Staff Association –MASA chairperson Bennet Magara has been summoned to defend himself before the Makerere University Appointments Board.

An Internal Auditor, Magara was suspended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Nawangwe Barnabas on December 21, 2018, together with Joseph Kalema, the Acting Senior Performance Management Officer in the Directorate of Human Resources at Makerere University for alleged inciting staff to disrupt university activities. Also suspended was Deus Kamunyu the MUASA Chairperson.

Nawangwe accused the suspended officers of engaging in acts or omissions prejudicial to the improper performance of duties and tainting the university image.

Also, Andrew Abunyang, the Director Human Resources contends that Magara’s acts contravened section 5.7(8) of the Makerere University Human Resources Manual 2009 as amended.

This stems from allegations that on December 20th 2018, Magara mobilized some staff members to camp at the Main Building and later escort Ruth Iteu Eyoku to the Council meeting of 20th December 2018 well knowing that she had not been invited for the said meeting.

He further accuses Magara of mobilizing media to cover his actions well knowing that such would portray a bad image of the university.

Now, Magara has been asked to file a defence and appear before the appointments board next week on Wednesday 13th March 2019 in the Council Room.

He is also expected to submit 13 copies of his written responses/defence to the Board a previous day to the Employment Division office of the university.
