Women and young ladies have been cautioned to be careful on social media as some men they chat with are criminals.

The warning was issued by CP Fred Enanga the police spokesperson following rape of a lady in Mbale by a man she met on social media.

According to the police report, Namukose Sarah became intimate with a man in Mbale online before he invited her over to visit him. The victim was also promised a job by this man.

The lady left her home in Wantoni Mukono on 3rd March 2019 to meet the man in Mbale. She was then driven around the village of Kamonkoli by the man who later stopped at an unknown destination and raped her before making away with all her belongings including the phone and money.

Enanga says women are vulnerable and should not trust men they meet on social media as some are perverts looking for their next victim.

“This is some bit of recklessness, but we also want to caution especially young girls and women. First of all, you are vulnerable under such a situation like this, you don’t know who you are talking with in the back ground and then you end up getting sexually assaulted” Enanga said.

He added that the lady has not helped with investigation as she does not have the man’s picture or the registration number of a car in which she was raped.
