However on Saturday evening, 7 more cases were confirmed from 225 samples that were tested on the fateful day. 218 people tested negative, while 7 tested positive for COVID19, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 30.

The 7 cases were of a 30 year Ugandan female resident of Bunga, Kampala who arrived from UAE on March 18th 2020. The other one was a 26 year old Ugandan female resident of Mutungo, Kampala who arrived from the U.K on 20th March 2020.

The three new cases that were confirmed on Sunday are from 206 individuals who were tested and these traveled mainly from the Gulf and Europe. All three had been in institutional quarantine.

According to President Yoweri Museveni, two of these are wife and daughter of the man from Masaka who was among the first nine confirmed cases. On his return from Dubai, he went home to his family. After the first confirmed case, his community advised him to go for checkup where he tested positive.

“Therefore, his wife and daughter were his closest contacts and had been quarantined in Entebbe. The third person is a 15-year-old teenager who returned from school in the UK on March 21st. He was under institutional quarantine where he developed symptoms and tested positive” the president noted.

Public transport remains suspended and it remains unclear if indeed after 14 days, more cases will have been confirmed, or the ban shall be lifted.

According to close sources, the President is expected to address the nation anytime today or Tuesday.
