Uganda has confirmed 5 new CoronaVirus cases. The cases are of a Ugandan male (63), resident of Najjanankumbi who traveled from Germany and Ugandan male (57) resident of Adjumani district in salt trade. Never left the country but does business at Elegu border. Isolated at Adjumani district.

Other cases are of an 8 months old child in Iganga whose father traveled from Kenya a week ago. The child is under isolation at Iganga hospital and teams were sent to gather information and take samples from all people that have been in contact with the family. By this evening, the ministry is expected to have finished collecting their samples.

Meanwhile, 2 of the 6 Chinese who were recently arrested in Zombo district also tested positive. These had been under quarantine in Kampala but attempted to escape to DRC last week and were arrested in ZOMBO district. These were 6, but 4 tested negative. The ministry will follow the trail up to Zombo to learn who they interacted with and pick samples for testing

Henry Mwebesa Director General, Health Services says the ministry is working with police to ensure that during arrests, suspects are not kept close to one another and that distance is kept, to avoid transmission.

This brings the number of COVID19 cases in the country to 14. Ugandans have been advised to stay home and follow the ministry of health guidelines.

Uganda received a donation from the Chinese businessman Jack Ma including masks, testing kits among others to support health workers.

“100,000 masks, 20000 test kits, 751 personal protective equipment and 11,100 face shields” Mwebesa confirmed receipts.
